The 2018 Supreme ……one dream …one vision.

The 11th Supreme Box Kart Championships for Cub Scouts at Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit on Sunday 30th September was a huge success, with a record number of entries this year, 252 Cub Scouts racing on the day.

42 teams took part from 12 counties, some coming from as far afield as Wiltshire, Devon, Avon, Kent, Manchester, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as all the expected from West and East Sussex, Surrey, London and Hampshire.

Each team (6 cubs) got 12 heats to qualify for the Cuff Miller SHOOTOUT (top 16) for which each team received a trophy for getting this far. In total 252 heats were run before the SHOOTOUT.

During the day Rolls Royce Motor Cars brought a car for all to sit in, as did National Hot Rod driver 155 Lee Pepper who gave up his day at Northampton Stadium to be at the SUPREME! Littlehampton cadet band played at lunch time and a flash dance invaded the raceway during the final round. Also, on display were the Tenacious Twirlers (Majorettes) from Hampshire who performed before the SHOOTOUT.

There were once again some hard-fought battles on the tough figure of eight raceway, and as always, we had some big surprises at the end of qualification. The first of these were newbies ,1st Chipping Sodbury finished in the top 5 and 2nd Irlam (Manchester) also newbies finished in 8th.

4th East Grinstead took out Chipping Sodbury in the SHOOTOUT, then continued through to the semi-finals, but 2nd Irlam did the unbelievable and got themselves a place in the quarter final by beating the highly ranked 2nd Willingdon from East Sussex. The defending champions, 1st Woodmansterne, (Woody) finishing in 3rd place beating 4th East Grinstead in the third place run off.  12th Bangor N.I. made it to the quarter finals only to get knocked out by 12th Chichester who then progressed all the way to the final.

Here they were beating by 1st Bolnore the current West Sussex Masters Champions, so with a win at the Supreme 1st Bolnore have done the Double and only one other pack has ever archived this in Box Karting.

Trophies were presented to the top four teams, each cub got one to keep, with a shield for the Championship winners, and every cub competing on the day, went home with a medal.

Tina Shaw Morton MD of Woods Travel said “We are very proud to have sponsored this terrific event for the 7th year running and would like to thank the organisers who help put it all together and to say congratulations to all who took part.”
