Adult Awards

Hello and a warm welcome to the County Rewards and Recognition pages.
The entire panel feel passionate about making sure our outstanding West Sussex volunteers that work within the 10 Districts and at County level are rewarded and recognised for their services to scouting via the Awards scheme.

We are here to help you put together nomination forms and support the County Commissioner in making recommendations to HQ.

So let me introduce you to our small but effective County panel

Irene Orford – Reward and Recognition Panel Chair

Lives in Southwater near Horsham
Works for her husband who runs a small plumbing and heating business
Been involved in scouting in West Sussex for over 30 years as a Cub Scout Leader, Assistant District Commissioner (Cub Scouts), Deputy District Commissioner, Assistance County Commissioner (Cub Scouts), Deputy County Commissioner and between 2012 -2017 West Sussex County Commissioner.
Volunteers for the National Trust as a room guide at Petworth House, likes reading, walking, dancing, travel and spending time with family and friends.

Jill Gladman – Reward and Recognition Panel member

Based in Arundel and Littlehampton District.
Works in the office at River Beach Primary School in Littlehampton
Been involved in scouting for over 40 years in Worcestershire, Kent and West Sussex and have held various posts from Section to County level. 
Currently County Leader, (Cub Scouts) Training Advisor and SASU member in A /L District.
A mum and a nanny to two.

Becca Hardcastle – Reward and Recognition Panel member

Based in East Grinstead District. Cub Scout Leader in Copthorne.
Also a member of East Grinstead Network, where she is the Programme Co-ordinator. Works in Haywards Heath in Admin, and has just started a Business Law course. Likes to read and watch movies or TV programmes.
Enjoys travelling and exploring new places. 

fSteve Dawson – Reward and Recognition Panel member

Based in East Grinstead
Works for a chemical raw materials distribution company
Been involved in scouting for many years as is his wife and daughter
Held various roles including Deputy County Commissioner.  Now the Chairman of the County Appointment Advisory Panel and a member of the County Executive
Likes to read and watch TV programmes especially live sport.
Still trying to play village cricket in Sussex and enjoys travelling across the world both in and outside of Scouting

The Scout Association Awards

The Association has a national awards system for recognising good service, length of service and special acts of heroism and bravery, courage or endurance, and devotion to duty under suffering. Details of the Award, criteria and application forms can be found here.

To support application West Sussex Scouts have a County Awards panel whose purpose is to assist the County Commissioner in putting forward names of suitable candidates for awards. All applications should therefore be either emailed to or posted to the West Sussex Scouts County Office, Lodge Hill, London Road, Watersfield, Pulborough,West Sussex.

County Commissioner Award

The County Commissioners Award is a local award issued to people who have given good service to Scouting in the County, but do not qualify for a National Award. Nominations should be emailed to to or posted to the West Sussex Scouts County Office, Lodge Hill, London Road, Watersfield, Pulborough,West Sussex.
